The Alchemy of Remains
A collection of ten works, 2025—2026

This collection is about what happens when something is worked past the point of holding still.
Alchemy here is not transformation from nothing – it is what happens when you take what already exists and work it: build it, scrape it back, rework it, until what is left is something changed. The title holds both halves of that – the process of working, and the remains it leaves behind.
Some of the shapes I have been asked to hold came from outside. Some I built myself, out of expectations I quietly agreed to keep.
Painting became the place I talk back to all of it – not a confession, just a conversation with myself, face to face, with nothing left to become for anyone but myself.
Scratching runs through every canvas as much as the paint does – a way of marking what a surface has been through rather than hiding it. Out of that worked-over ground, a form pushes forward: folded, torn, unfurling, caught mid-transformation, neither fully contained nor fully free.
The paintings do not resolve that tension. They hold it open – the way I am still learning to keep what is mine and let go of the rest, and inviting anyone standing in front of them to ask the same of themselves.
A wild, emotionally perceptive child, who learned quickly to hide herself.
She heard what the world and society needed her to be, louder than what she wanted to be instead.
Seventeen years in a high-pressure legal career deepened that habit, folding her into the shape expected of her.
Painting is the thread back — followed one stitch at a time.
She's still on her way. Self-taught, she works from a studio in Vienna, in rust, indigo, chalk white and grey.
magwa is a gift from a three-year-old nephew — his own way of saying her name before he had the words to say it “correctly.” The work is made for him, and for every soul learning to unfold — the freedom to simply be, without a shape asked of you.

Prices on request. Works can be seen in the Vienna studio by appointment, and the collection is available for exhibition or loan.
